Tritons Fall in Heartbreaker to Southwestern
After a tough stretch of games, the Triton Women (5-14) led the entire way on Saturday (1/18) afternoon in Hodges Fieldhouse before falling in a last-second heartbreaker, 59-58, to Southwestern.
The Tritons never trailed after a fast start led to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. Leading 29-25 at half, the Tritons would stretch their lead to as many as eight before Southwestern closed the gap and scored the game-winning layup with .5 seconds left on the clock.
The Tritons were led by Lainey Meahl who had a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ashlin Jacobsen added 15 points with Kiara Baptiste pulling down 12 rebounds to go with her 11 points. As a team the Tritons shot 33.3% (19-57) from the field and 84.2% (16-19) from the free throw line.
The Tritons are back in Hodges Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 22nd for a conference matchup with Iowa Lakes. Tip is set for 5:30 PM.
