Tritons Back In Win Column With Buzzer-Beater at Southwestern
With two of their last four losses coming down to the wire, including a last second loss to Southwestern at Hodges Fieldhouse, the Tritons (6-17) knew it wouldn't be long before they broke back into the win column. That win finally came in a 61-59 victory in their rematch with the Spartans in Creston.
Trailing 18-11 after the first quarter and down 28-25 at half, the Tritons battled back to lead 46-45 at the end of third quarter.
Down two with :18 seconds left, Lainey Maehl scored to tie the game at 59-59 before a block from Catherine Clemente with :4 seconds left led to the game-winning layup from Ashlin Jacobsen in the final seconds for the victory.
The Tritons were led by a double-double from Catherine Clemente with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks. Lainey Maehl added 14 points and six rebounds. Ashlin Jacobsen scored 11 points.
As a team, the Tritons shot 22-63 (34.9%) from the field, 9-26 from 3PT (34.6%), 8-12 (66.7%) from the field and outrebounded the Spartans, 40-33.
