Tritons compete at Leatherneck Classic

DAVENPORT - The Iowa Central bowling teams competed against a number of top four-year programs here this past weekend at the 20th annual Leatherneck Classic presented by the Quad Cities Sports Commission.

The Triton women finished 14th overall with the men placing 19th. Newman University was the women's champion and Calumet College of St. Joseph won the men's title. 

On the women's side, Leah Sanck was the highest individual finisher, placing 95th overall with a 927 score and a 185.4 average. The former Fort Dodge Senior High state champion had a high-score of 224 and also rolled a 203 game.

Cassie Lee placed 108th overall, Olivia Nolte was 133rd, Samantha Wangen 143rd and Korrissa Johnson 145th among the 207-bowler field.

Raymond Wiegand led the Triton men, finishing 66th overall with a score of 1,142 and an average of 190.3 Wangen had games of 218, 215 and 211 during the event. 

Jacob Kraft was 76th, Kamrin Chizek finished 196th and Justin Graves was 199th in the field of nearly 300 bowlers.

"Both teams struggled on Saturday but rebounded on Sunday with some great scores," Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said.

The Tritons return to action this weekend at the Five Seasons Classic in Cedar Rapids.
