Tritons second after two days at national

LANSING - Dale Weaver and Jacob Kraft rolled to a runner-up finish in the men's doubles here Friday at the NJCAA Bowling Championships while both Iowa Central teams sit in second overall.

Weaver and Kraft had a total score of 1,268, finishing behind Rock Valley's Zach Joiner and James Stewart. Weaver had games of 185, 201 and 172 for a 558 series, with Kraft going 249-240-221 for a 710 total. 

Braedon Gehrke and Mason Will placed fifth in doubles with Justin Graves and Marcus Yamada finishing seventh. Derek Rucker and Mason Stokes checked in at ninth. 

After the three doubles games, three singles games and three team games, Kraft is second overall in the men's all-event standings at 2,015 Stokes is 10th, Rucker 11th and Gehrke 19th. 

The Tritons have a team total of 9,066 heading into the final day on Saturday with Rock Valley first at 9,232. Iowa Central has placed second overall each of the past two years. 

On the women's side, Rock Valley is first at 8,578 pins with Iowa Central second at 8,415. The Tritons are the two-time defending national champions. 

Abigail Price is second in the women's all-events with a total of 1,815 and Samantha Wangen is fifth. Olivia Nolte is seventh and Madisyn Gerdts 21st. 

"Both teams are doing really well," Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. "Jacob bowled fantastic and we have several in position to finish as All-American (Top-8 in all-events earn status). Both the men and women have a legitimate chance to take home a national title."

Bowling will conclude at the Royal Scot Lanes with the final rounds of the five-person at 7:15 a.m. Iowa time.
