Strong start for Boleyn on the links

Kelly Boleyn has been working on getting herself ready for the upcoming regional tournament.

On Friday, the Humboldt native showed her form with a strong start to her quest to win the Iowa Central Spring Invitational.

Boleyn fired an opening round 79, placing her second overall. She recorded seven pars on the front nine and four more on the back despite chilly and rainy conditions throughout the day.

"Kelly broke her personal tournament record with her 79 and it's just a testament to her work ethic," Iowa Central head coach Kris Graewin said. "She's been working unbelievably hard and has kept improving each and every day. Her big challenge Saturday is to see how she backs it up.

"The joy on her face knowing she played her best tournament round is what coaching is all about."

Mount Mercy leads the team race with St. Mary second, Des Moines Area third and North Iowa Area fourth. Mount Mercy's Breanna Felderman is the individual leader.

The second round takes place Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
