Boleyn tees off at nationals

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Iowa Central's Kelly Boleyn began her run at the NJCAA Women's National Championship here on Monday at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club.

Boleyn, a graduate and former all-stater at Humboldt, fired an opening round score of 91. 

Seminole State's Minori Nagano is the leader after 18 holes at even-par followed by teammate Alex Giles, who is one shot back. Dodge City's Alyssa McMillen recorded an ace on hole No. 13 during the day.

Boleyn teed off late in the morning, shooting a 50 on the front-nine. That included pars on No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8. She followed that performance up by shooting a 43 on the back-nine, recording three pars and five bogeys.

Among the highlights were pars on two of the par-5s, including the 490-yard No. 10. She also had pars on two par-3 holes and finished bogey, par, bogey to the day.

Seminole State is the overnight leader after recording a team score of 298.

Paradise Valley's Amy Bockerstette made history on Monday, becoming the first athlete with Down Syndrome to compete in any national collegiate championship. Bockerstette fired a 111, highlighted by a par on hole No. 13.
