Boleyn, Rezac Top-20 for Tritons

MASON CITY - The Iowa Central men's golf team claimed another trophy here Tuesday, winning the NIACC Invitational.

The Tritons won the title thanks to the tiebreaker score of Tomas Ribeiro, finishing at 3-under 285 with Hawkeye. Iowa Lakes and Southwestern tied for third.

Austin Erickson was the runner-up, firing a 68 to finish just one shot back of Tom Bell from Hawkeye. Liam Ross was third with a 70 and Justin Schipper tied for fourth with a 71. Sam Evenson tied for 14th with a 75, Ruan Jooste and Manning Lane tied for 16th with 76s and Ribeiro tied for 22nd with a 78.

Simon Mitchell fired a 78 to tie for 22nd and Matthew Kruger added a 79 to tie for 30th.

"Another competitive day in some not great conditions," Iowa Central head coach Kris Graewin said. "We were able to put together three solid scores but we're still waiting for us to have all five guys play well. Our region is so tough. It wasn't long ago that us and Hawkeye were bottom dwellers my first year and now both teams have a great chance to compete for a regional title.

"It was fun to see Austin get into one of his grooves. He'd be the first one to say that he left a few shots on the golf course. Liam has come into his own and is playing really well. It was also nice to see Justin bounce back from his round on Saturday."

Waldorf won the women's title as the Tritons finished fifth.

Kelly Boleyn tied for sixth with an 83 to lead the way for Iowa Central, while Halle Rezac was 20th with a 93. Korie Norris finished 24th and Ella Dinsdale 26th.

Next up for the Tritons will be postseason action. The women compete April 26-26 in Milford, Kan. at the NJCAA Plains District Tournament with the men heading to Moravia and the Preserve at Lake Rathbun April 30-May 1 for the Region XI Championships.
