Tritons hit course for districts

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - The Iowa Central women's golf team opened postseason play here Monday at the NJCAA Plains District Championship.

Iowa Western has a 10-stroke lead over Dodge City with Barton, Des Moines Area and Iowa Lakes rounding out the Top-5 after 18 holes. Thitapha Iamtragul of Dodge City is the clubhouse leader following her round of 74.

For the Tritons, returning national qualifier Kelly Boleyn fired an 86 and is tied for 12th. Halle Rezac shot a 108 and is tied for 43rd.

"(Monday) was a bit of a struggle on the greens for Kelly," Iowa Central head coach Kris Graewin said. "She's started to strike the ball better lately and hit it well enough to shoot in the low 80s or upper 70s, but she had some three-putts.

"It is nice to see that there is a path for her to get to nationals if she's able to put together a round round Tuesday. The weather was a bit chilly and the golf course is in rough shape, so it isn't a surprise to see the scores as high as they were."

The two-day event is being held at Rolling Meadows Golf Course. The Top-2 teams and Top-3 individuals not on the two qualifying teams advance to nationals.
