Both the Iowa Central men's and women's golf squads hold single-stroke leads after day one of the Triton Spring Invitational on Friday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

The Triton men carded a 295, which is one shot clear of DMACC. Austin Erickson of Iowa Central carded an even-par 71 and is atop the individual leaderboard. Justin Schipper (73), Sam Evenson (75) and Kai Heilckert (75) were next in line for the Tritons.

"I was pleased with how the men played, but I know we left some shots out there," ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. "We didn't putt it very well, so we'll look to make some adjustments (Saturday) and get after it.

"Austin was able to play well with five birdies. I was really happy with how our depth played out. We've got a very competitive team all the way through the roster so it was good to see them play well. Looking forward to trying to secure our sixth straight home invite win (in the final round)."

The Iowa Central women had a 341, which is one shot ahead of William Penn University. Abby Gaudian and Olivia Tait are tied for third after shooting idential 83s on Friday. Kelly Boleyn (86) and Faith Malloy (89) followed for the Tritons.

"Really proud of our women's program," Graewin said. "We were finally able to put together four scores and give ourselves a lead heading into (Saturday).

"With the windy conditions out there, they battled through everything and kept the ball in play. Really excited to see how we respond after having a lead."

Amanda Karvala (79) of Waldorf is the women's individual leader.

Action concludes at the FDCC beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
