The quest to nationals begins Sunday for the Iowa Central wrestling team.

The Tritons will be in action alongside their ICCAC counterparts at the Central District Tournament hosted by Iowa Lakes in Estherville.

Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. 

The event is a qualifier for the NJCAA National Championships to be held March 6-7 inside the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. 

Last year, Iowa Central finished third overall behind Clackamas and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. They crowned a pair of national champions in Ethan Karsten and Tyree Sutton. 

The Tritons enter the postseason ranked sixth in the nation as one of five rated conference teams. North Iowa Area is fourth, Iowa Western fifth, Ellsworth eighth and Iowa Lakes 20th.

Four individuals are in the Top-5 for Iowa Central led by No. 1 ranked heavyweight Boone McDermott. 

Daniel Vargas is fourth at 125 pounds, Ashton Eyler second at 165 and Anthony Johnson fourth at 174.
