Jose Rodriguez made a call that Luke Moffitt was excited to receive.
Rodriguez decided to return to the Iowa Central wrestling program this year, and the end result was a national title for 174-pounder.
In the finals, Rodriguez pinned Mason Christiansen of Western Wyoming, capping a 12th Top-3 finish at nationals for Moffitt and marking the 17th consecutive season that the Tritons have finished in the Top-8.
Along with Rodriguez, Bret Minor, Keaton Geerts and Jorden Pryor all finished second with Aidan Harris adding a fourth.
Iowa Central also placed second at the North Central District Championships, crowning champions in Phil Smith Jr., Andrew Gamble and Rodriguez. Harris and Pryor both finished second.
"We had some ups and downs early in the season," Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt said. "But these guys continued to buy into what we were trying to do and experienced some great finishes to the year."
Moffitt was named the ICCAC Coach of the Year.
