Tritons compete at Grand View Open

PLEASANT HILL - The Iowa Central wrestling team got back into tournament action here Saturday at the Grand View Open.

Four Tritons earned Top-5 finishes led by a runner-up showing from Phil Smith Jr.

Lane Cowell and Jace Luchau were each fourth with Trevion Sample placing fifth.

Smith, a returning regular from a season ago, went 4-1 at 174 pounds. He claimed two decisions, a fall and a major decision before coming up short in the finals vs. Northern Iowa's Jared Simma. 

Cowell, coming off a win at the Yellowjacket Open last weekend and a victory in the dual with Indian Hills, went 5-2 at 125 pounds. The former Fort Dodge Senior High standout had two technical falls and a pair of decisions before falling to Iowa State's Conor Knopick in the third place match.

Luchau went 6-2 at 157 pounds, winning his first three and three more in a row on the consolation side. He had four falls on the day. 

Sample had a 4-3 day at 197 pounds with two falls and a decision to go along with a forfeit win.

 

Hayden Halter had four wins, Aidan Harris five, Nolan Miller-Johnston four, Kody Cook one, Jesus Gutierrez one, Toby Laurie one, Dashawn Tigges two, Colten Goodell one and Josh Ramirez three. 

Iowa Central will make its home debut this Tuesday when they host North Iowa Area at 7 p.m. inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
