Pryor claims title for Tritons

AMES - Jorden Pryor claimed the heavyweight division of the freshman/sophomore portion of the Harold Nichols Open here Sunday.

The event, hosted by Iowa State University, included several four-year, two-year and club teams.

Aidan Harris and Darnai Heard were each runners-up, with Kody Cook and Justice Hefley placing third for the Tritons. Lane Cowell, Nolan Miller-Johnston, Jesus Gutierrez, Marcos Barron and Trevion Sample also placed.

Pryor rolled through the heavyweight division, as the reigning national runner-up scored a technical fall and a pin in 30 seconds over Iowa State's Nathaniel Fernandez.

Harris was the runner-up at 133 pounds, earning two falls before coming up short against South Dakota State's Derrick Cardinal. Heard was second at 149, going 2-1 on the day with a fall and a major decision.

Cook earned bronze at 165 and Hefley third at 149.

Cowell was fourth at 125 pounds, Barron sixth at 141, Miller-Johnston fourth at 157, Gutierrez fourth at 174 and Sample sixth at 197.

Iowa Central will wrestle on Thursday when they host Iowa Lakes inside Hodges Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
