Four Tritons punch semifinal tickets

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Jorden Pryor, Jose Rodriguez, Keaton Geerts and Nolan Miller-Johnston all secured spots in the semifinals here Friday during the NJCAA Wrestling Championships.

The Iowa Central quartet will compete in the final four of their respective weight classes on Saturday. Rodriguez is a returning national champion, while Pryor and Geerts made the finals last year. 

Behind the four, along with Darnai Heard, John Lovett and Jose Ramirez, the Tritons are second in the team standings behind Clackamas. 

Pryor received a bye as the No. 1 seed at heavyweight before earning a major decision and a fall. He wil face Shane Whitney of Camden County in the semifinals. Rodriguez picked up two pins and a major decision at 174, leading him to a bout with North Iowa Area's Ein Carlos.

Geerts recorded two pins and a technical fall at 149 pounds and will square off with Northeast Oklahoma A&M's Dylan Brown. Miller-Johnston will face Iowa Western's Fabian Padilla at 157 after earning a fall, a major decision and a decision. 

Ramirez went 4-1 at 165 pounds and will square off with Ellsworth's Mirzo Khayitov. Herard put together a 3-1 day at 141 and meets Iowa Western's Creighton Baughman in the consolations.

Aidan Harris, who placed fourth last year, went 2-2 at 125 pounds, John Lovett was 3-2 at 197, Coleton McElliott went 1-2 at 184 and Davian Gowens had a 2-2 day at 133. 

Clackamas has 99 points with seven remaining on the championship side and two more in consolation matches. Iowa Central has 86.5 points and Northeast Oklahoma A&M is third with four and three left. Western Wyoming, North Idaho, Iowa Western and NIACC round out the Top-7.
