Triton Men dominate over Indian Hills, Remain Undefeated in Duals for the Season

Triton Mens Wrestling dominates Indian Hills

It is far from perfect for Luke Moffitt, but completing the first half of the dual schedule unbeaten is exactly what he wanted.

The No. 11 Iowa Central wrestling team dominated 19th-ranked Indian Hills through the early part of the night here Wednesday before holding in for a 25-21 victory inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

With the win, the Tritons moved to 3-0 on the year, having also downed North Iowa Area and Iowa Lakes in ICCAC action earlier this month.

"That back-half of the lineup made it tough after we really came out strong and looked good," Moffitt said. "We've still got some guys learning to control things and working on getting bigger to compete at those weights. We'll get there.

"It's the end of November and I'm happy to be 3-0 in duals and happy with what I've seen so far."

Trentin Walker kicked the dual off with a 10-7 victory at 125 pounds over Isaac Gibbs with Jamey Bruner following at 133 with a decision of his own. Ben Fosdick brought the crowd to their feet with a fall over Isaiah Perez at 141 in just over two minutes to quickly make it 12-0 in favor of the Tritons.

"Fosdick looked great," Moffitt said. "Trentin did a great job of showing what he can do, Bruner wrestled hard and we got some good momentum going from those guys."

Defending national champion Matt Sarbo, ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds in the early going, scored a technical fall over Yaveion Freeman with six takedowns. Preston Harn followed with a 15-0 technical fall of his own and Michael Myers pulled out an 11-8 decision at 165 pounds.

"Sarbo just continues to get better with each day," Moffitt said. "The guy that really impressed me the most was Harn. He came out and did exactly what he is capable of and dominated.

Indian Hills closed things out with a fall, a technical fall and a decision over the final four matches, as Jaquan East, Darion Thompson, Ansel Cervantes and Noah Iobe were winners.

"We're far from complete and that showed in those matches," Moffitt said. "We've got to do a better job of fighting for each point."

The Tritons close out the pre-Christmas slate Saturday when they compete in Storm Lake at the Buena Vista Open. After that, they will prepare to defend their national duals title in Oklahoma Jan. 12-13.
