Mens Wrestling Fares Well in Worthington

Triton men see five top-five finishers at Worthington Open

WORTHINGTON, Minn. — The Iowa Central wrestling team jumped back into tournament action here Saturday at the Worthington Open.

Four Tritons finished in the Top-5, led by a runner-up showing from Darnai Heard.

Lawrence Rosario was third, Angel Banegas fourth and Michael Myers fifth.

Heard advanced to the finals at 157 pounds, coming up short against South Dakota State's Moses Espinoza-Owens, 13-9. He reeled off two falls, a major decision and a decision to reach the championship match.

Banegas finished with a 2-2 mark at 125, Rosario went 3-1 at 174 and Myers had three wins with two pins at 165.

Defending national champion Matt Sarbo won the consolation bracket at 149 pounds, rebounding from a sudden-victory defeat in the second round to record four consecutive wins. The final three came by fall for Sarbo.

Iowa Central returns to action on Thursday when they host Ellsworth inside Hodges Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
