Tritons light up scoreboard in season opener

Julia Herbst recorded 25 goals and scored 54 points as a freshman for the Iowa Central women's soccer team in 2019.

The Brazilian is well on her way to surpassing those totals after the season opener here on Friday at Rogers Sports Complex.

Herbst recorded six goals as the Tritons cruised past Scott, 15-0.

Sophomore Elicia Mulvaney added three goals and three assists with Flavie Sallaz, Dannilee Bears, Anna Pons, Addison Boyle, Jeannette Scholz and Julie Kosch all adding a goal each.

"We wanted to make a statement here in the first game," Beauchamp said. "Play hard for 90 minutes and keep up the intensity. It felt good to finish out the 90 minutes."

In the first 45 minutes, Iowa Central (1-0 overall, 1-0 in ICCAC) battled a strong wind, using quick passes and efficient play to record four goals. Herbst had two during that time with Sallaz and Bears also finding the back of the net.

"It was good to see us have success in the first half going against the wind," Beauchamp said. "In the second, we kept the ball on our half and were able to execute.

"The girls came out ready to go. We talked about not forcing anything and just doing what we needed to do, which I thought they did a great job of."

Herbst scored on a penalty kick in the first half to go along with a free-kick and a header from a corner kick in the second. She was named all-region last year for the Tritons.

"She found ways to score in many different ways," Beauchamp said. "It was a really good day for Julia."

Iowa Central returns to action on Monday when they travel to Hawkeye for a 7 p.m. start.
