Iowa Central enters regionals with momentum

The Iowa Central women's soccer team gained some momentum here Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Sports Complex.

Behind goals from four different players, the Tritons knocked off No. 14 Northeast, 4-0.

Iowa Central (6-5 overall) now sets its sights on the Region XI Div. I Tournament where they will face Indian Hills (9-1-1) on Sunday in Ottumwa beginning at 1 p.m. The other semifinal pits Iowa Western vs. Iowa Lakes, with the championship match set for next Wednesday.

Flavie Sallaz got the scoring going with a goal in the first half off an assist by Anna Pons. Julia Herbst followed with a goal from an Annabelle Friege assist to make it 2-0 with Elicia Mulvaney getting on the board before half.

In the second half, Abigail Dalebout provided another insurance goal as Jasmine Kurufher had a clean sheet in net for the Tritons.

"It was a really good way to go out and get that momentum against a very good team," Iowa Central head coach Jared Beauchamp said. "Now, hopefully, we can carry that over to the semifinals."

Herbst now has 39 career goals, including 14 this season.

"Before the game, we got together on the field and talked about the importance of playing this game with all the will we had, and how much it would change our mentality to play the semifinal," Herbst said. "Northeast is one of the most qualified teams we played against, and having the victory in our favor makes us very confident for the semifinal
 
"Our team needed this victory to believe more. Scoring a goal makes me feel more confident, and happy to be able to help my team with the victory."
