York provides game-winner for Tritons

BURLINGTON - Kayla York knocked in the game-winning goal as the Iowa Central women's soccer team snapped out of a mini-funk here Wednesday afternoon.

Tied at 3-all after 90 minutes, York, off an assist by Vanessa Ellwanger, gave the Tritons a 4-3 victory over Southeastern.

"I couldn't be more proud of these girls," Iowa Central head coach Rilee Miller said. "They showed a lot of heart. Even when the odds were against them, they didn't stop, which resulted in us coming back."

Southeastern led 3-1 before the Tritons (3-2 overall) tallied goals by York and Lauren Chetty to tie it. York had a busy day, as she also had an assist on the Chetty goal while Jeannette Scholz provided the other assist.

Cameryn Young had the first goal off an assist by Ires Tania in the first half to tie the match at 1-1.

"We struggled the last few games, which forced us to go back to the drawing board and work out the kinks," Miller said. "The girls have been working very hard in practice and it certainly translated into the game. The communication, work ethic and connection were there.

"It was a great team win."

Iowa Central returns to the pitch this Saturday when they travel to Illinois Central.
