Emotional road win for Tritons

SPENCER - The Iowa Central women's soccer team played with a lot of emotion here on Tuesday.

And the end result was exactly what Rilee Miller wanted.

The Tritons snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Iowa Lakes hours after losing starter Morgan Lawson to an injury.

Miller and the team honored her before the match by writing her No. 4 on their arms.

Katie Bennett broke a scoreless tie in the second half with a goal off an assist by Jeannette Scholz and Nadia Jaffer gave Iowa Central (4-6 overall, 1-3 in ICCAC) a 2-0 lead. Ires Tania had an assist on that goal.

"Coming into this match, the girls were looking to prove something and they did just that," Miller said. "We were able to possess and control the tempo of the game which resulted in some great opportunities on goal.

"We're all very happy coming home with this win. This is certainly a tremendous boost for our team morale. I'm very proud of the way our team has competed in these last few games and looking forward to continued improvement."

Iowa Lakes (3-8, 1-3) made it 2-1, but were unable to score the equalizer. The Lakers earned a 3-0 victory in Fort Dodge last month.

Next up for Iowa Central will be another rematch, as they host sixth-ranked Indian Hills on Saturday, October 16 at Rogers Sports Complex.
