McCoid Named ICCAC DII Women's Soccer Athlete of the Year

Landry McCoid is ICCAC Athlete of the Year

Landry McCoid put together a season to remember on the pitch for the Iowa Central women's soccer team.

McCoid, a freshman, was recently tabbed the ICCAC Div. II Player of the Year.

Along with McCoid on the first team for the Tritons, freshmen Eden Palkovic and Lydia Zaragoza also earned that honor. Iowa Central went 15-4 this past fall, scoring 113 goals with a perfect 8-0 record at Rogers Sports Complex.

In those 19 matches, the Tritons faced nine teams that appeared in the Top-20, a place they were ranked for much of the season.

Iowa Central lost to Northeast in the regional final, 2-1 in overtime.

McCoid, a native of Ankeny, recorded 35 goals, which set the new mark for Div. II players in the conference. She had 79 total points, which were 15 more than the next highest player.

Palkovic was second in the ICCAC in points with 64, scoring 19 goals with 26 assists. Zaragoza added 10 goals and 22 assists.

Second team selections included Abby Jensen, Marissa Kiemen and Nicole Mares-Rivera, with Abby Hersom and Perla Rios being named honorable mention.

Jensen had six goals and seven assists this year, Kiemen recorded two goals with nine assists and Mares-Rivera tallied 13 goals with four assists. Hersom recorded two goals and Rios had an assist.

Jensen, Kiemen, Mares-Rivera, Hersom and Rios were all sophomores for the Tritons.
