Three Tritons Collect Athlete of the Week Honors
Sydney Hagen – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Forward
Iowa Central forward Sydney Hagen delivered two strong performances last week to help the Tritons remain unbeaten. Against Kankakee (Ill.), Hagen scored once and assisted two more goals as Iowa Central cruised to a 7-0 win. She followed with a key role against No. 8 Schoolcraft (Ill.), where her constant pressure on the opposing defense helped create scoring opportunities in a 2-0 victory. Hagen's efforts have the Tritons off to a 3-0 start.
Alyssa Tucker – Iowa Central – Freshman – Goalkeeper
Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Tucker stood tall between the posts for Iowa Central, recording 10 saves and back-to-back clean sheets. Against Kankakee (Ill.), she had a relatively quiet outing in the 7-0 win. But in the clash with No. 8 Schoolcraft (Ill.), Tucker was the difference-maker, making two critical first-half saves to preserve a 1-0 lead before adding eight more in the second half to secure the 2-0 upset.
Tayla Sampson – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Outside Hitter
Iowa Central's Tayla Sampson reached the century mark in kills last week, recording 105 across five matches. Averaging five kills per set, she extended her streak to eight matches with double-digit kills. Sampson's highlights included 23 kills in a win over No. 12 Mesa (Ariz.) and a career-high 28 in a victory against Madison (Conn.). With her offensive firepower, the Tritons swept all five games to improve their record to 8-4.
