Tritons swim past St. Ambrose in pool

DAVENPORT - After a lengthy break, the Iowa Central swim teams returned to the pool here on Saturday for a dual with St. Ambrose.

Lily Wright won three individual races as the women posted a 132-113 victory, while Kyle McKenzie was a double winner in helping the men to a 139-125 triumph.

Wright won the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, while Maria Goncalves picked up first place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle.

Penny Lawrence captured the 1,000, Andrea Gallardo Perez the 200 fly and Saige Knight the 100 free. The Tritons were also first in the 400 medley relay behind swims by Goncalves, Wright, Nancy Olson and Leticia Dias

McKenzie clocked winning times in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, as did Brady Ferguson (1,000), Nikola Trajanovski (200 free), Pedro Aragon (200 fly), Sam Brennan (50 free) and Brendon Chadd (500 free). Iowa Central was also first in the 400 medley relay with Quintin Tayali, McKenzie, Aragon and Brennan comprising the relay.

"I'm really proud of our swimmers," Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. "We drove four hours to compete in 3-to-4 races in two hours time. After the workload I've put them through, they swam very well.

"It shows the resiliency they have, which bodes well for the end of the season."

The Tritons return to the pool this Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Coyote Invitational.
