Tritons honor sophomores, finish season 17-0

The Iowa Central women's tennis team put the final exclamation point on a perfect regular season Saturday, besting Simpson, 8-1.

On a special day honoring the sophomores ahead of nationals, the Tritons remained unbeaten on the year at 17-0, including a 51-0 mark as a collective unit in doubles.

Fort Dodge's Jessica Jordison clinched the meet with a win in the No. 6 singles spot over Aubrey Ocheltree, 6-4, 6-1.

This is the first time that the Iowa Central women have finished unbeaten in a season during the five-year run of the program.

"Our program has high expectations and values the little things that make big things happen," Iowa Central head coach Jerry Thor said. "Through uncompromising effort, skill development and determination, these ladies have helped me establish our strong culture and chemistry together. The past 21 months have given us a lot to reflect on, but that is what I will always remember. They made big things happen."

Juliana Vidal, Rebecca Van Der Lee, Emma Slade and Rachel Slade also picked up straight set wins in singles. Sofia Andrade played the No. 1 position and dropped a tough 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) contest.

In doubles, Marketa Beladova and Vidal, Andrade and Van Der Lee, and twin sisters Rachel and Emma Slade won by a combined score of 24-2, including an 8-0 win at No. 1 for Beladova and Vidal.

Prior to the start of the meet, the Tritons honored sophomores Andrade, Jordison, Emma Slade, Rachel Slade, Van Der Lee, Vidal along with men's players Merlin Bolema, Aleix Garrido, Juan Gomez, Juan Navarrete and Xavier Zumba.

Next action for Iowa Central will be at the national championships in Mesa, Arizona May 1-5.
