Iowa Central pushes forward at nationals

MESA, Az. - The Iowa Central women's tennis team has five positions still competing here at the NJCAA Championships.

Rebecca Van Der Le moved into the quarterfinals of her bracket with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the round of 16. She will now face No. 2 seed Emilie Schwarte of Tyler for a spot in the semifinals.

Emma Slade, competing in the No. 6 bracket, also advanced into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win. She now gets top-seed Momoko Yoshimura, who is also of Tyler, for a semis berth.

Sofia Andrade remains active on the consolation side in the No. 2 spot after posting a convincing 8-2 victory.

In doubles, the team of Marketa Beladova and Juliana Vidal are in the consolation quarterfinals at No. 1, as are the team of twin sisters Emma and Rachel Slade at the No. 6 spot. 

Andrade and Van Der Lee fell in the round of 16 at No. 2 doubles to the sixth-seed. 

Iowa Central is 11th in the team standings with 15.5 points.
