MESA, Az. - Several Iowa Central women's tennis players remain in the chase for medals here at the NJCAA Championships.
The doubles teams of Marketa Beladova and Juliana Vidal, along with twin sisters Emma Slade and Rachel Slade, are still playing in the consolation rounds in their respective brackets. In singles, Sofia Andrade is still alive in singles.
Beladova and Vidal posted a convincing 8-0 win Monday in the consolation round of 16, advancing to the semifinals. They will face a pair from Marion Tech with the winner advancing to the consolation final.
Andrade continues to battle in the consolation singles bracket at No. 2, posting another win. She topped Alejandra Vargas Alvarez in the round of 16, 8-1, and downed Madelyn Dibble in the semifinals, 8-5.
Andrade will now face the fifth-seeded Annunciata DeSouza from North Central Texas for third place.
The Slade sisters remain in the hunt for third after scoring an 8-0 victory in the consolation round of 16 on Monday at No. 3 doubles. They will meet a doubles team out of Sauk Valley for the right to advance to the third place match.
Rebecca Van Der Lee dropped a tough match to the second-seeded Emilie Schwarte from Tyler in the quarterfinals of her singles draw.
Emma Slade fell to top-seed Momoko Yoshimura in the quarterfinals at No. 5 singles.
The Tritons are currently tied for 10th with 17.5 points after recording just 2.5 points in their previous trip to nationals.
