Iowa Central battles at ITA regionals

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Iowa Central men's and women's tennis teams were in action this past weekend at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Cowley.

Joining the Tritons were No. 2 and host Cowley, third-ranked Seward and Pratt for the singles and doubles draws.

On the men's side, Nolan Laduree reached the consolation finals and Eduardo Valenca made the consolation semifinals. Arthur Praud advanced to the round of 16 while Zamani Moyo, Theo Devals and Nicholas Espinoza were also in action. 

In doubles, Moyo and Riku Sugiyama made it to the consolation finals with Laduree and Praud, along with Devals and Nick Mathis, making it to the consolation semifinals. Espinoza and Valenca also competed. 

Marketa Beladova reached the quarterfinals as an unseeded player, taking the fourth-ranked player in the nation to three sets. Emma Semery was the other member of the Triton women's team to see the court, with the two competing in doubles.

"Overall I was very happy with our performance," Iowa Central head coach Eric Sturgis said. "We competed hard against some of the top JUCO teams in the country and were very competitive. I am sure we will have some regionally-ranked players this fall."

Iowa Central will head to Pella to face Central in a women's dual on Tuesday, with the men hosting Buena Vista on Wednesday.
