Connell scores school-record

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Hannah Connell set a new school-record and clocked the fastest time in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles at the Region VI/KJCCC Invitational here on Sunday.

Connell advanced out of the prelims with a time of 8.61 before blazing across the finish in 8.42 in the finals. The Iowa Central sophomore was one of four athletes to record Top-10 marks during the event for the Tritons.

Victoria Adu launched a toss of 19.61m in the weight throw, which ranks second in school history. She won the meet title by almost 12 feet. 

Dashinelle Dyer and Jerome Jesup put together school-best Top-10 times in the 60 hurdles and 60 dash. Dyer ranks sixth at 7.94 and Jesup is ninth at 6.84. Dyer was won the event over teammate Jaheem Hayles and Jesup was third in his final. 

Earning national-qualifying spots were the men's distance medley relay of Robin Aguilar Gonzalez, Isaac Davis, Cassius Havis and Pur Biel, Will Richards in the weight throw, Jesup in the 200, Lee Eppie in the 400, Madison Johnson in the high jump and the trio of Kelvin Bungei, Hunter Klimek and Chris Levario in the 5000. 

Eppie won the 400 with William Richardson (weight throw), Johnson (high jump), Patience Heath (triple jump), Odell Frye (60), Biel (1000) and Bungei (mile) all placing second. 

Iowa Central is next in action on Saturday when they compete in Humboldt.
