Connell makes history on the track

LEVELLAND, Tex. - Hannah Connell raced her way into the NJCAA and Iowa Central history books here Thursday during the final day of the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Connell scored a title in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a meet-record time of 13.07. That also bested her previous best, which was set in the prelims on Wednesday.

With that time, Connell surpassed the previous mark set by Nichole Belcher of Essex County in 1995 at 13.13. It also is the third-fastest time by a Barbados female ever in the event.

Connell, who is headed to the University of South Florida in the fall, also added a third in the 200, setting a personal-best time of 23.46.

The Tritons placed third overall as the highest-finishing ICCAC school, scoring 81 points. Host South Plains was crowned the event champion.

Rosalie Fish put a strong cap on her incredible career at Iowa Central, recording a pair of bronze medal finishes in the 1,500 and 5,000.

Fish, who has signed with the University of Washington, went 4:46.53 in the 1,500 and followed that up with a time of 18:24.92 in the 5,000.

Odell Frye, a University of Minnesota commit, placed third in the 100 with a personal-best of 11.50 and was sixth in the 200 (23.98).

The Triton 4x100 relay of Patience Heath, Connell, Tamara Roby and Frye finished fifth in 46.07.
