Tritons add to list of national qualifiers

Martin Lamou continues to make a name for himself during the indoor track and field season.

The Iowa Central standout broke the school record in the triple jump this weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. His jump of 16.33m also placed him first in the event.

Roman Kuleshov moved into fourth on that same list and Tafari Bishop clocked the 10th-fastest time in school history in the 600.

The Tritons also had several new national qualifiers as Britney Brown (400), Emma Seidel (shot put), Taylor McCreedy (3km), Bishop (600), Aye Devany (5k), Brady Hogan (5k) and the 4x400 of Bishop, Yared Kidane, Deronn Kane and Hayden Cobbs secured spots.

"We continue to make progress in training across all event groups and this weekend was proof positive that we are trending in the right direction," said Iowa Central head coach Nick Ekel. "We are looking forward to next weekend to add a few more national qualifiers before we turn our full attention towards the championship portion of the indoor season."

"We had some major breakthroughs at the Husker Invite in Nebraska," said Dee Brown, Executive Director of Track and Field at Iowa Central. "Martin shattered our school record in the triple jump, we had some big personal bests and a handful of national qualifiers from the mid and distance squad. Our men's 4x400 also put together a good run.

"It is very exciting to see these athletes make these big improvements as we prepare for the regional and national championships."

The Tritons close out their regular season this Friday and Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota at the SDSU Indoor Classic. The Region XI Indoor Championships take place Feb. 18-19 in Storm Lake.
