Big indoor finish for Tritons

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Iowa Central men's and women's indoor track and field team concluded their regular season here at the SDSU Indoor Classic.

Eight new national qualifying marks were set along with a school record, meet record and three other program Top-10s.

Yared Kidane captured first in the 600 meters at a time of 1:18.58. His mark not only qualified him for nationals, but set both a new meet and school record in the process.

The distance medley of Robin Aguilar Gonzalez, Hayden Cobbs, Kidane and Hunter Klimek finished second, with Martin Lamou and Chot Chotyiel placing third in the high jump.

In the 200, Jerome Jessup placed fourth overall and Gonzalez placed fourth in the 1,000. Lamou was sixth in the 60 and Samson Shukuru sixth in the long jump.

Adeyah Brewster picked up a silver in the 60 hurdles in 8.51, a time that places her third in school history in the event.

Chloe Garcia Grafing was third in the 1,000, Jade Jackson third in the 60 hurdles and Britney Brown earned fourth in the 600. The distance medley relay of Taylor McCreedy, Nyadhol Thichiot, Brown and Grafing earned fourth.

"This was a big weekend for us and a great way to end the regular season," Iowa Central Executive Director of Track and Field Dee Brown said. "We had some very big performances, especially in the mid-distance events. Yared crushed a school record while both Britney and Chloe posted Top-10 marks.

"Both of our distance medley relays ran for the first time this season and hit qualifying marks that were some of the best in the NJCAA this year. We are in a good position going into the Region XI Championships."

Brown's time ranks seventh in school history and Garcia Grafing eighth.

Kidane, Aye Devany (3k), Chotyiel, Lamou, the men's distance medley relay, Brown, Garcia Grafing and the women's distance medley all achieved marks for nationals. The women's medley ranks second in the nation, Kidane and Garcia Grafing fourth and the men's medley fifth.

The Tritons head to Storm Lake Friday for the start of the Region XI Indoor Championships, which conclude on Saturday. The NJCAA Indoor Championships are March 4-5 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
