Track and Field Competes at SDSU's Jim Emmerich Meet

Brookings, SD - The Iowa Central Men's and Women's Track and Field teams participated in the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet at South Dakota State University on Saturday January 20.

The Triton men finished fourth in the team standings with several Top-10 finishers in events. The Triton women finished in a tie for ninth place with Dakota State.

First place finishers for the Triton men included Trevon Prince in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:21.15, Bongumusa Nkosi in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.37 seconds, Waukeem Walters in the long jump at 7.11 meters, and Zion Campbell in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.67 seconds. 

Tina Samson finished first in the women's long jump with 5.99 meters.  Samson also recorded a 10th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.28 seconds.

Adreian Roper took second in the men's triple jump at 14.04 meters and also finished ninth in the high jump.

Youssef Hamed finished third in the men's 200-meter dash, recording a time of 22.18 seconds. Waukeem Walters finished sixth in the 200 with a time of 22.43 seconds.

In the men's long jump, Stephen Sydnor finished fourth with 6.89 meters and Cooper Spurgeon finished eighth with 6.52 meters.

Sione Lotu Fifita finished third in the men's high jump at 6'06.75 and Garrison Murray took eighth at 6'01.

In the men's 800-meter run, Jadon Boots took fifth place with a time of 1:53.90 and Joseph Asahi Wright finished 10th at 1:56.57.

Hamed finished third in the men's 60-meter dash, recording a time of 6.76 seconds.

The men's 4x400 relay "A" squad of Trevon Prince, Jadon Boots, Joseph Asahi Wright and Seon Booker finished in fourth place at 3:24.23.

For the women, Dayvione Briggs finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 9.09 seconds.

The women's 4x400 "A" squad of Abigail Frey, Natalie Kirilova Bogdanova, Tina Samson and Dayvione Briggs finished seventh with a time of 4:02.62.

National qualifiers for the Tritons were Campbell and Hamed in the 60-meter dash, Nkosi in the 200-meter dash, Prince in the 600-meter run, Boots and Asahi Wright in the 800-meter run, Fifita in the high jump and Tina Samson in the long jump.

Recording Triton all-time bests were Campbell in the 60-meter dash (second), Samson in the long jump (third), Nkosi in the 200-meter dash (sixth), Hamed in the 60-meter dash (seventh) and Boots in the 800-meter run (eighth).

"For a first meet, it was a great start," said Dee Brown, director of Track and Field at Iowa Central. "We had some exciting performances to kick things off, but more importantly we had an opportunity to see where we are currently at in our fitness and what we need to work on before our Region Championships in one month."
