Aleec Harris brings elite experience and a championship mindset to Iowa Central Community College as the sprints and hurdles coach. A former Adidas-sponsored professional hurdler, Harris competed at the highest level of the sport for over seven years. During his career, he won USA national titles in both the 60m hurdles and 110m hurdles, held multiple world-leading times, and represented Team USA at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing and the 2017 World Championships in London. He also held a year-long win streak, cementing his reputation as one of the world’s top hurdlers.
Harris’s journey began at Duluth High School in Georgia, where he was the GA5AA State Champion in the 110m hurdles. He then attended Barton Community College, where he captured NJCAA national titles in both the 60m and 110m hurdles. After transferring to the University of Southern California, he ran an astounding 13.18 in the 110m hurdles to earn a silver medal at the NCAA Track & Field Championships—at the time, the second-fastest performance in NCAA history.
Following his decorated professional career, Harris transitioned to coaching, serving for three years at the University of Houston under Olympic legends Carl Lewis and Leroy Burrell. He made a significant impact on both the men’s and women’s programs, helping break the American Athletic Conference records and school records in the 60m hurdles (indoor) and 110m hurdles (outdoor) multiple times. His athletes earned numerous conference medals in both the American and Big 12 Conferences, including standout Devion Wilson, who became the Big 12 60m hurdles champion, NCAA silver medalist in the 110m hurdles, and Pan American Games medalist.
In addition to athletic success, Harris emphasizes academic achievement and character development. He has contributed to the academic success of his student-athletes, many of whom have earned All-Academic honors. Under his guidance, numerous athletes have achieved First and Second Team All-American status, a testament to his commitment to developing well-rounded individuals.
Aleec Harris now brings that same energy, expertise, and mentorship to Iowa Central, where he is dedicated to helping student-athletes reach their full potential on the track and beyond.
