Tritons knock off #2 Cowley, split at KCK Tournament

The Tritons traveled to Kansas City, Kansas for the KCKCC Tournament Friday night, with matches slotted versus Neosho and Cowley County.  The first match was a rematch of the Tritons 3-0 win over Neosho on September 1st.  The Tritons, playing with a new lineup, were without kill leader Amaya Finley, who had a minor injury in the Tritons match Wednesday night.  The first two sets saw the Tritons come out early, holding the lead until the last few points, but Neosho snuck back and took both sets in extra points, 26-28, 24-26, and finished the last set 16-25.  Stat leaders for the match were Libby Zorn with 13 kills, Abby Lohrmann with 37 assists, Hannah Murray with a career high 25 digs, and Asarar Gony and Libby Zorn with 4 blocks.

The second match for the Tritons was against #2 ranked Cowley County, the first of three matchups this season for Iowa Central and Cowley.  Iowa Central came out of the gates strong, winning the first two sets 25-18, 25-19.  Cowley would battle back, taking the third 21-25 before the Tritons would inch out set four, 27-25.  The Tritons got a career high from Libby Zorn with 19 kills.  Middles Kayla Faldet and Asarar Gony added 9 and 8 kills each, Abby Lohrmann had 37 assists, and Kryssie Okinaka had 5 ace serves.  Defense was a huge factor for the Tritons, as four players had double digit digs.  Kryssie Okinaka had 31 digs, Hannah Murray 24, Darlynn Okinaka had a career high 17 digs, and Abby Lohrmann chipped in 10.  Asarar Gony led the blockers again with 5 blocks while Hannah Murray and Kayla Faldet added 3 blocks a piece.

Iowa Central is now 15-6 on the year.  They return to action Wednesday night, with a home conference match versus Northeast (NE) at 7pm.  Both Iowa Central and Northeast sit atop the ICCAC standings at 4-0.
