Tritons go 3-1 at Nebraska tournament

The 18th-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team went 3-1 over two days of action at the Central-Colimbus Nebraska tournament.

The Tritons picked up wins over Metropolitan, the host school and College of St. Mary JV, falling to third-ranked Johnson Country. Both Metropolitan and Central received votes in the preseason Top-20 poll.

In the four-set win over Metropolitan (25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17), Kealey Anderson had 20 kills, Amaya Finley 18 and Taylor Light seven. Katie Godfredsen led the Tritons with 41 assists, adding seven digs.

Finley had 26 digs, Anderson 16, Taylor Bienemann 14 and Hannah Huss 13. Delaney Spinks had three of the six solo blocks for Iowa Central, with Light adding two.

Against Central (25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17), Anderson and Finley each had 18 kills, with Light adding nine and Abbie Stewart seven. Godfredsen recorded 42 assists, Bienemann had 23 digs and Light had five blocks.

"Our net play and defense are really strong right now," ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. "We were a little too high error, but that is expected with first day jitters. This was two quality wins over teams that are traditionally ranked in the Top-20."

In the featured match of the weekend for Iowa Central, Johnson County scored a 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19 victory. Anderson has 12 kills, Finley nine and Light five. Bienemann had 13 digs and Anderson seven.

The final match was vs. the College of St. Mary JV (26-24, 18-25, 25-20, 25-21), with Finley picking up 17 kills and Anderson 11. Light added nine. Haley Alharithy and Stewart had five assisted blocks each with Alesha Johnson picking up 27 assists and Bienemann 18 digs.

"Saturday wasn't as smooth as Friday, but it was nice to work a lot of different people in to see who would step up," Horn said. "Amaya, Kealey and Taylor (Light) continue to lead us on offense with Taylor (Bienemann), Amaya and Hannah leading us on defense."

Next action for the Tritons will be Wednesday, August 28 when they travel to Marshalltown. The home opener for Iowa Central is set for Friday, August 30 vs. Briar Cliff JV (3 p.m.) and Dakota County (7 p.m.).
