Tritons open ICCAC title defense with sweep vs. Ellsworth

Tritons go 3-1 at Nebraska tournament

The Iowa Central volleyball team had no trouble with Ellsworth Wednesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse, earning a sweep in the ICCAC opener for both teams.

Scores were 25-13, 25-8 and 25-15.

The Tritons (7-1 overall, 1-0 in league) went unbeaten in the conference last year, winning the regular season title and advancing to the regional finals.

Haley Alharithy, who was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week, recorded a team-high eight kills. She added four assisted blocks and two digs. 

Kealey Anderson had six kills, nine digs and assisted on two blocks, with Easton Swanson, Abbie Stewart and Amaya Finley chipping in five kills each. 

Alesha Johnson picked up 13 assists, Katie Godfredsen had 11 and Taylor Bienemann recorded 16 digs. Hannah Huss added five digs and Taylor Ricke had eight assists.

A total of 17 players entered the match for Iowa Central. Delaney Spinks had two kills, Shay Karmazyn recorded a solo block and assisted on two, Karolayne Santos had a pair of kills, Baylyn Johnson made three digs, Sydni George had two digs and a kill, Darlynn Okinaka chipped in four digs and Taylor Light had two kills and assisted on a block. 

The Tritons head to Minnesota for the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Rochester this Friday and Saturday. They will play Bismarck State and Madison on Friday, with Rock Valley and Harper set for Saturday.
