Tritons cruise in Region XI tourney opener

The eighth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team moved one step closer to earning another trip to nationals, sweeping Iowa Lakes in Region XI Tournament play here Saturday.

Scores were 25-7, 25-11 and 25-16.

Kealey Anderson had a match-high 12 kills, with Amaya Finley adding nine. Easton Swanson recorded six kills and Abbie Stewart had five.

Katie Godfredsen registered 20 assists and Alesha Johnson 11 for the Tritons (33-5 overall), who were crowned regular season ICCAC champions this past Wednesday with a victory over North Iowa Area.

The Trojans are hosting the Region XI-B Tournament in Mason City this weekend as the No. 2 overall seed.

Finley added 16 digs, Godfredsen 15 and Taylor Bienemann had 11.

Iowa Central will face Kirkwood at 1 p.m. Sunday. With a win, the Tritons will qualify for the NJCAA Div. II National Tournament.
