Tritons make quick work of Northeast

NORFOLK, Neb. - The fifth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team made quick work of Northeast here Wednesday night, sweeping the ICCAC contest.

Scores were 25-11, 25-21 and 25-15.

Katilyn Steffes led the Tritons (4-0 overall, 4-0 in league) with 16 kills while Kealey Anderson added 12 and Haley Alharithy had eight. Baylyn Johnson recorded 13 digs, Anderson 12 and Steffes 10.

"I think we came out strong and we worked together well," Alharithy said. "Even though we had some rough patches in the second set, we still came out with a team win.

"We are really excited for the rest of the season and we are pumped to be leading the conference."

The two-time defending league champions have dropped just one set in four matches this year.

"Northeast can be a tough place to play," Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. "It's one of our longest drives. We normally break the trip up with a stop in the middle but due to COVID, we weren't able to. I thought the girls did a great job of coming out strong from point one and battling through a traditionally tough NECC defense to find ways to get kills.

"It was great to see some different players step up offensively as well."

Angel Baylark chipped in six kills and Bailey Dugan five. Alesha Johnson registered 40 assists while Karli Eckert had five digs.

The Tritons return to action on Thursday when they host Iowa Lakes inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
