Another sweep for Iowa Central

The fifth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team recorded their sixth three-set sweep of the season, downing Southwestern here Thursday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

Scores were 25-11, 25-6 and 25-21.

Katilyn Steffes led the Tritons (8-0 overall, 7-0 in ICCAC) with 14 kills while Kealey Anderson added 11 and Angel Baylark eight. Alesha Johnson registered 35 assists and Baylyn Johnson 11 digs.

"We played super well in the first two sets and finished the third strong," Steffes said. "I think we did a good job staying consistent with a different lineup and also adding people in.

"Our defense was scrappy which allowed us to get set up for some good kills."

Iowa Central took command of the match by scoring 13 of the final 17 points of the first set. They jumped out on Spartans (0-6, 0-6) in the second with a quick 7-3 run and never looked back.

In the third, Southwestern led 14-12 before the Tritons closed the door and earned the sweep with a 13-7 closing run.

On the year, Iowa Central is 24-2 in sets played.

Haley Alharithy added four kills, Darlynn Okinaka, Alesha Johnson, Baylyn Johnson and Steffes all had two serving aces each, and Alesha Johnson added seven digs. Karli Eckert had six digs. Jaiden Zeis had four block assists.

Next action for the Tritons will be Tuesday when they host 18th-ranked North Iowa Area (3-3, 3-3). The Trojans swept Iowa Lakes last night.
