No. 4 Tritons sweep NIACC

The two-time defending ICCAC champion Iowa Central volleyball team continues to power past opponents.

Playing in front of family and friends for the first time this season Tuesday, the fourth-ranked Tritons swept by North Iowa Area inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

Scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22.

Katilyn Steffes led a balanced attack for Iowa Central (9-0 overall, 8-0 in ICCAC) with 12 kills, 11 digs and two aces while Kealey Anderson added 10 kills and four total blocks. Haley Alharithy recorded 10 kills and four total blocks as well.

"I think we were a little nervous there at the start," Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. "For some of our girls, they haven't seen their families in a while. Still, it was great to be playing in front of them and having them here cheering us on."

This marked the seventh sweep of the season for the Tritons, who have lost just two sets in all. They are also now 51-10 at home since the start of the 2016 season and 25-1 in league matches.

"We have a lot of firepower and that makes us really hard to defend," Horn said. "Alesha (Johnson) does a fantastic job of getting the ball to the girls in the right position."

Johnson, who ranks in the Top-5 in the nation in assists, had 36 with 11 digs and an ace. Darlynn Okinaka also had an ace while Baylyn Johnson and Karli Eckert recorded two assists each. Bailey Dugan also had three total blocks.

Iowa Central will put its 11-match conference win streak on the line Thursday when they head to Boone to face ninth-ranked Des Moines Area (8-2, 8-2). The Bears swept Southeastern last night.

Earlier this year, the Tritons earned a 3-0 victory over DMACC at home.

"This is a really big four-week stretch for us," Horn said. "We have some tough matches but the girls are excited for that. DMACC has been playing really well and they are excited for the challenge."
