CEDAR RAPIDS - Baylyn Johnson has enjoyed each moment of her time with the Iowa Central volleyball team.
But this season will always be memorable and forever special for the Algona High School grad.
Johnson and the rest of the Tritons take to the court here beginning Tuesday against Carl Sandburg in the NJCAA Div. II Volleyball Championship from the Alliant Energy PowerHouse Arena. The match begins at 9 a.m.
"I've felt honored to be part of this team and to be going to nationals," Johnson said. "It's felt good to win with these girls, who are like family to me."
Johnson, a sophomore, has recorded 310 digs with 30 assists and 11 serving aces this season.
Iowa Central earned its bid to nationals by winning the Region XI-A Tournament following a third consecutive ICCAC regular season crown. They are 19-3 entering the tournament.
"This season has been very rewarding because everybody comes with their own kind of talent," Johnson said. "That's what helps us to be the team that we are today."
It has also been a reunion for Johnson, playing alongside former high school teammate Molly McCauley on the court.
"It's been amazing to be able to play with not only my former high school teammate, but my best friend," she said. "I will cherish these moments for life."
