Iowa Central meets Illinois Central at nationals

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Iowa Central volleyball team looks to complete a memorable season with a third place finish here Thursday at the NJCAA Div. II National Championships.

The Tritons take on top-seed Illinois Central inside the Alliant Energy PowerHouse Arena at 3 p.m. Johnson County and Parkland will meet for the national title.

Iowa Central (21-4 overall) has already secured its highest finish ever at nationals after reaching the semifinals. They suffered a tough setback to Parkland on Wednesday night after scoring wins over Carl Sandburg and Catawba Valley in the first two rounds.

Kealey Anderson has moved into sixth on the career kills chart with 883, surpassing Ali Grein. She also ranks sixth all-time in total attacks with 2,297.

Alesha Johnson is fourth in career assists with 1,986 and Haley Alharithy seventh in total blocks with 236. 

The Tritons are making their sixth appearance at nationals after winning their third consecutive ICCAC Div. II title. 

Illinois Central downed Potomac State and Gulf Coast State before falling in three to Johnson County. They are 22-2 on the season.
