The seventh-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team opened the home portion of their schedule with ease on Tuesday night.

The Tritons (4-1 overall) knocked off the Grand View JV, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16.

"It was kind of a weird night," said Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn. "We have a new format where varsity plays at 5:30 p.m. and JV afterward, so that took some getting used to.

"With the heat, it made it humid in our gy and it was a little slippery. The girls did a good job of working through that and we became really efficient on offense."

Sophomore Noemia Chiacchio had a big night for the Tritons with 19 kills and nine digs.

Manson Northwest Webster graduate Emily Goodner had eight kills and Emma Bilhimer added seven.

Fort Dodge graduate Alexis Hiracheta, St. Edmond graduate Mya McClain and Olivia Benson all had 10 digs.

Mercedes Madlock had 40 assists for the Tritons. Olivia Sturgis and Chiacchio had two blocks each.

"I thought Noemia played a super great match," Horn said. "I was super impressed with her. She had 19 kills and 10 digs.

Mercedes had a good game as well. You can't have good hits without passers and I think they were efficient."

The Tritons are back in action on Thursday when they host William Penn JV. Varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m.
