Triton Volleyball Goes 4-0 at NDSCS Tournament

Tritons win 3-2 at nationals over gulf coast

WAHPETON, N.D. — The 10th-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team posted four wins here during the North Dakota State College of Science Tournament.

Last Friday, the Tritons downed both Jamestown JV and Minnesota State Tech in three sets, following that up with a sweep of Bismarck State and the host NDSCS on Saturday.

"We were super proud of the way our girls battled in a grueling five set match for our fourth match in 24 hours," said Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn. "We weren't super happy about the way we played on Wednesday night, so we made some goals about teamwork, communication, and energy and I thought they really responded well with great energy and communication all weekend."

Noemia Chiacchio had 19 kills with 16 digs and Emma Bilhimer added 11 kills in the win vs. Jamestown JV. Mya McClain had 19 digs, Mercedes Madlock finished with 40 assists and Olivia Sturgis recorded nine kills.

Alexis Hiracheta finished with four of the 13 serving aces for the Tritons.

Chiacchio had 12 kills and Araya Garrison nine in the sweep of Minnesota State Tech with Sturgis adding eight. Chiacchio picked up 16 kills with 18 digs in the victory over Bismarck State as Olivia Benson had 14 digs and Strugis eight more kills.

To conclude the weekend, Chiacchio had 19 kills with 11 digs and five aces, Garrison finished with 11 kills, McClain had 22 digs with three aces and Madlock 45 assists.

Next action for the Tritons will be Tuesday at Mason City to play NIACC.
