Iowa Central Goes 2-1 in Home Tournament

The Iowa Central Triton Volleyball Team went 2-1 at their home tournament, the Triton Invitational, Friday and Saturday October 20-21.

In Friday's game one, the Tritons faced the Chargers of Carl Sandburg, winning in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, and 25-17.

Leading in assists in game one was Mercedes Madlock, who had 37 of 40 Triton assists. Mya McClain contributed with two and Natalie Hagadon had one assist.

Noemia Chiacchio led the game with 12 kills, followed by Olivia Sturgis with 10, Araya Garrison with eight, Emily Goodner and Emma Bilhimer each contributed five kills and Mercedes Madlock had three.

Olivia Benson led the Tritons in digs with 15, followed by Mya McClain with 14, Noemia Chiacchio with six, Mercedes Madlock with five, Alexis Hiracheta with four, Emily Goodner and Natalie Hagadon each with two digs and Olivia Sturgis, Araya Garrison and Emma Bilhimer each contributing one dig.

 

In game two of the evening, The No. 3 Tritons battled with No. 2 Cowley, falling in three sets: 22-25, 17-25, and 21-25.

Mercedes Madlock led the Tritons in assists with 26 of 28. Mya McClain added two assists for the Tritons.

Noemia Chiacchio led in Triton kills with 11, followed by Olivia Sturgis with 10, Emma Bilhimer with five, Emily Goodner with four, Araya Garrison with two and Mercedes Madlock with one kill.

Mya McClain and Olivia Benson each contributed 17 digs for the Tritons, Mercedes Madlock had 13, Alexis Hiracheta had 11, Noemia Chiacchio had seven, Emily Goodner five digs, Natalie Hagadon two digs and Araya Garrison, Emma Bilhimer and Olivia Sturgis each contributed with one dig.

 

In Saturday's lone game, the Tritons bounced back winning 3-1 over the Wolves of Metropolitan.

Madlock led with 49 assists, Emily Goodner had two assists and Alexis Hiracheta, Mya McClain and Noemia Chiacchio each contributed one assist for the Tritons.

Mya McClain had 33 digs for the Tritons, followed by Noemia Chiacchio with 19, Mercedes Madlock with 17, Alexis Hiracheta with 14, Olivia Benson with seven, Emily Goodner with six, Olivia Sturgis with three, Emma Bilhimer and Araya Garrison each with two digs and Matea Cunningham with one dig.

Noemia Chiacchio led the Tritons with 19 kills. Emily Goodner and Araya Garrison each contributed 11 kills for the Tritons, followed by Olivia Sturgis with seven, Emma Bilhimer with six and Mercedes Madlock with four kills.

The Tritons come in at No. 4 in this week's NJCAA rankings and are in a three-way for first place in the ICCAC with a 9-1 conference and 27-4 overall record. They wrap up regular season play this week on the road at Northeast on Wednesday October 25, and Illinois Central on Friday October 27.
