Norfolk, Neb. – The Iowa Central Triton Volleyball team clenched a share of the ICCAC Conference championship here Wednesday night in a 3-0 game against Northeast.

Scores were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23.

"Northeast is one of our furthest conference games, so it's a longer day and the players really need to be intentional about getting off the bus and doing what they need to do to get ready for a great warmup and a fast start to the match" said Triton Head Coach Sara Horn. "They did just that and came out ready to play against a really good Northeast team."

The No. 4 Tritons finished 10-1 in conference play this season, finishing in a three-way tie for first with No. 5 Kirkwood and No. 12 Des Moines Area. The Tritons won over DMACC 3-1 in a September 21 matchup and fell to the Eagles of Kirkwood in three on September 6.

Mercedes Madlock led the Tritons in assists with 36 of the team's 40. Mya McClain added 3 and Noêmia Chiacchio had one assist.

Chiacchio and Emma Bilhimer each contributed 10 kills for the Tritons while Emily Goodner had eight, Olivia Sturgis had six, Araya Garrison had five and Madlock had two kills.

McClain led in digs with 17 followed by Chiacchio's 13, Madlock's 10, Alexis Hiracheta's four, Natalie Hagadon and Olivia Benson each added three digs, Goodner had two and Bilhimer and Matea Cunningham each contributed one dig for the Tritons.

"I'm really proud of this group for working extremely hard to get to the point where we are now," said Horn. "Everyone was pretty unsure about what this group could do with so much turnover in the starting lineup.  But this sophomore class specifically has shown us what hard work in the off season can do and just how much you can improve in one season if you work hard and study your game."

Iowa Central will travel to East Moline on Friday for a non-conference matchup with Illinois Central. They return home On November 1 to host Hawkeye in a 7 p.m. game in Hodges Fieldhouse in the first round of the Region 11 Tournament.
