Coming off a successful inaugural 2022-2023 season, the Iowa Central Women's Wrestling squad is ready to start season two off strong with their first lineup of freshmen and sophomores.

Ranked second nationally in team standings behind Indian Hills in the preseason, Head Coach Zak Hensley is excited to have a full roster ready to hit the mats when they open their season at the Luther Hill Invitational at Simpson College in Indianola Saturday November 4.

"We are excited to have a roster of first- and second-year athletes after our first full recruiting cycle," said Hensley. "We've filled the 101 weight class with two this year (Emma Lewis and Myah Rousch), where we didn't have last year."

Lewis enters the NJCAA preseason polls ranked second and Rousch ranked sixth.

"Emma has yet to wrestle a college match, but she is ranked second in the preseason as a freshman," said Hensley.

The Tritons' roster is full of ranked talent with Diana Pineda ranked second at 109 pounds, Kailyn Younger and fellow Triton Rodiat Adeduntan ranked third and fourth at 116, Aniyah Dinwiddie fifth at 123, Bronwyn Brenneman second at 130 and Anna Sondall ranked seventh at 130. Two Tritons are in the top-10 in the 136 weight class with Hadlie Hood in second followed by former Fort Dodge Dodger Alexis Ross ranked third. Rounding out the ranked Triton roster are Kammie Schanz ranked third at 143 and top-rated Maranda Bell at 191.

"Our first-years are a very smart, talented group of kids," said Hensley. "We are excited to have Alexis Ross. She is a Dodger and we were happy to keep her at home and look forward to what she can do on the mat. Aniyah (Dinwittie) comes to us from Arkansas and has great athleticism that she will do well transferring to the college level. They have all done well on the mat and pick it up fast."

"The main goal is to keep everyone healthy and have a great experience as Tritons," said Hensley. "You're always looking toward that national championship at the end, but if we work hard and get better every day and are wrestling at our best by March, we will have reached or goal as a team and a staff."

Hensley is assisted this season by Keaton Geerts, a 2022 national champion for the Triton men's squad.

Following the Luther Hill Invitational, the Tritons will host North Iowa in a dual meet at home in Hodges Fieldhouse on Wednesday November 8.
