Women's Wrestling Competes at Missouri Valley Open

Women's Wrestling competed at the Missouri Valley Open November 17-18

The Iowa Central Women's Wrestling Team participated in the Missouri Valley Open Tournament in Marshall, Mo. November 17-18.

The Marshall Open is the largest women's collegiate wrestling tournament in the United States. More than 450 women's wrestlers from NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College teams participated in the two-day event.

Rose Rother was the top finished for the Tritons, finishing in eighth place after falling to Martha Vizcarra of Baker University in the seventh-place match.

In the 101-pound bracket, Emma Lewis won her first match over Zoe Omura of Midland by fall, advancing to the second round of the championship bracket. Lewis then lost to Abbeygael Caburg of Vanguard by decision. Triton Myah Rousch lost by technical fall to Sage Beltran of Missouri Valley College.

Rodiat Adeduntan lost 6-0 to Markaya Lottie of Avila in the first round of the 116-pound championship bracket. She had a bye in the first round of consolation matches and won her second-round match 10-0 over Mya Turnmire of William Penn before falling to Carysa Corrado of Friends University in the third round of the consolation.

Avery Reyes had a bye in the first round of the 123-pound championship bracket and lost by technical fall to Kelsey Louen of Simon Fraser University in round two. Rayes defeated Ximena Ibarra 10-0 in the second round of the consolation bracket and moved on to face Angelique Norman of Ottawa University, losing by technical fall.

Kailyn Younger won her first round match in the 123-pound championship bracket, defeating Daynel Pippen of Wayland Baptist 4-0. Younger lost to Shelby Moore of McKendree University 11-0, then moving on to defeat Trinity Howard of Montreat 4-2 before bowing out in the third round of the consolations by technical fall to the University of Iowa's Ava Rose.

Aniyah Dinwiddie lost by technical fall to Sophia Smith of Oklahoma City University in the first round of the 123-pound championship bracket. Dinwiddie had a bye in the first round of the consolation matches and was defeated by Gabrielle Hampton, an unattached wrestler from Kansas.

At 130 pounds, Bronwyn Brenneman was defeated by Destiny Campbell of Oklahoma City University and Dakota Whitman lost to Nichole Moore of McKendree. Brenneman won her first consolation match, defeating Iowa's Cali Leng. She moved on to defeat Cumberlands' Amy Allgaier, Lourdes' Kelcey Dew and Jade Martin of Missouri Valley each by fall in rounds three, four and five before bowing out to Iowa's Lilly Luft by technical fall.

At 136, Hadlie Hood was defeated in the first round of championship bracket by Kira Phillipa of Texas Women's University and lost to Andrea Jones of Doane in her consolation match. Alexis Ross lost in the first round to Jade Trolland of Simon Fraser University and won the first round consolation match 8-2 over Doane's Brianna Membreno of Doane before bowing out to Campbellsville's Addison Messerly.

Eavenly Nielsen lost her first round match at 143 to Rylee Blaker of Central Methodist University. Nielsen won her first consolation, defeating Madyson Dow of Cumberlands and fell to York University's Brisa Sallas in her second consolation match of the day.

Triton Olivia Fausnaugh was defeated in a first round 155-pound match by Nicole Lewis of Montreat and had a bye in the first round of the consolation. She was defeated by Central Methodist's Dymeria Guilory in the second round of the consolation matches.

Isabella Canada had a first round bye in the 191 championship bracket before facing Fath Perez of Texas Women's University.  Canada defeated Perez, advancing in the championship bracket and lost by fall to Iowa's Andjela Prjovic. Canada then defeated William Penn's Samantha Ruano by call in a consolation match. Canada was defeated in the fourth round of consolation matches by fall by Hayeni Costa, an unattached wrestler from Kentucky.

Cynthia Ellis competed for the Tritons at 235 pounds, and lost to Aliyah Ivarra of Avila in in the first round. She won the first consolation round over ICCAC rival Anika Vasquez of Iowa Lakes before falling to Martha Vizcarra of Baker University.

The Tritons will be in action on November 29 in a home dual vs. Indian Hills.
