It only took 18 minutes for the second-ranked Iowa Central women's wrestling team to prove their dominance.

On Sophomore night the Tritons made quick work of No. 9 Ellsworth, 50-5.

Before the dual started Iowa Central honored their nine sophomores. Third-ranked Dianna Pineda, fourth-ranked Rodiat Adeduntan, third-ranked Bronwyn Brenneman, third-ranked Kailyn Younger and second-ranked Briana Arauo Batista all competed for the Tritons.

Also recognized were sophomores Hadlie Hood, Rose Rother, Avery Sondall and Anna Sondall.

"This is a really tight group," said Iowa Central head coach Zak Hensley. "I give a lot of credit to these sophomores.

"They have shown great leadership with the younger group and have worked hard to show them the way and spend time together."

This was head coach Hensley's first group at Iowa Central and a crew that has gotten the program on its feet.

"They started this program," Hensley said. "They have set the tone for the program.

"This is a special group because they were the first group to put Iowa Central on the map."

The Tritons dominated the Panthers, winning 10 of the 11 matches — including six by fall and four by forfeit.

"We were eager to get back out there," Hensley said. "We have high goals, so it was nice to get out there and end the skid."

The Tritons lost consecutive league duals to Iowa Western and Indian Hills. On Thursday, it didn't take them long to get back in the win column.

Third-rated Emma Lewis (101) had the quickest fall of the evening in 14 seconds. Araujo Batista (170) also prevailed in under a minute at 44 seconds.

Pineda (109) earned a fall in 1:07, while Brenneman (130) picked up her pin in 1:34.

Isabella Canada (191) recroded a fall in 4:11. Kammie Schanz (143) also tallied a first-period fall.

Picking up forfeit wins were Fort Dodge Senior High graduate and seventh-ranked Alexis Ross (136); Adeduntan (116); Younger (123); and Rose Rother (235).

The Tritons will be back in action on Wednesday at NIACC in Mason City.
