Iowa Central runs at Chile Pepper Festival

Tritons place third at Hawkeye Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Iowa Central cross country teams competed against several NCAA Div. I programs here at the Chile Pepper Festival. 

The Triton women took home seventh place honors, finishing behind Arkansas, Texas, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Western Colorado. 

Winrose Chesang had the highest individual finish, coming in 13th overall in 17:03. Eleonora Curtabbi was 23rd in 17:22, Florance Uwajeneza was 43rd in 17:41, Lilian Buseieni was 44th in 17:44 and Rosalie Fish was 99th in 18:40.

Chesang's time was the second-fastest in school history, Cutabbi's was fifth and Busienei was seventh.

For the men, who placed 12th overall, Texas was crowned the team champion with Colorado Mines second, Oklahoma State third, Western Colorado fourth and Arkansas fifth. The Tritons were the second-highest junior college team in the standings. 

Awet Yohannes was the top men's finisher, as he crossed home in 24:58 to place 50th. Pur Biel was 78th in 25:20, Eldad Mulugeta was 83rd in 25:24, Milos Pendic placed 133rd in 25:52, Chris Levario was 141st in 25:56 and Trevor Ramsdell was 148th in 26:02. 

Iowa Central also sent a team to Waverly and the Dan Huston Invitational, as they placed ninth there with Moise Habineza finishing 67th overall and Jordan Hustak 85th. 

The Tritons are next scheduled to run on Saturday, October 19 when they compete at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer in Ettrick, Wisconsin.
